Thank You

I am indebted to so many people for supporting this idea.  I have a tough time beginning to articulate my gratitude to everyone – let me begin by thanking you, reader, for following along.  Being able to share parts of the experience with and (hopefully) hear some feedback/updates from you helps shrink the 8,220 miles between us.  Thank you.

In an interesting way, my path from small town Nebraska to southeastern Uganda has run crucially through Notre Dame.  Thanks to everyone at Notre Dame who encouraged and advised me, especially Professor Botting and Fr. Bob Dowd.  To the Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE) and the Glynn Family Honors Program, thanks for giving me the opportunity to pursue this endeavor.  I also owe a huge thanks to Greg, a Notre Dame graduate, for letting me live with him in Jinja and to my Notre Dame peers pursuing service/research work in Uganda for their advice.

Of course I need to thank my family for providing my foundation and encouraging me in whatever I choose to investigate.  I can only do this because of their support.

Finally, I would be amiss if I didn’t thank all of my music educators throughout the years, particularly Beth Augstine-Schulte at St. Bonaventure elementary school for her assistance with this project and most recently Dan Stowe of the Notre Dame Glee Club. To everyone who’s taught me or performed with me: Thanks for sharing the gift of music.  Keep spreading it.
